Main activities and responsibilities

• Responsible for the development of the biopolymer based encapsulation technology and the formulation • Plans, performs, and coordinates encapsulation experiments • Develops quality assays and protocols, integrates improvements to existing assays and techniques, suggests and implements process improvements • Follows policies, SOP’s and other applicable guidelines • Ensures process development to GLP/GMP production standards and quality control system under the guidance of QA director • Is an integral part of the pre-clinical development team and supports the team in the execution of endocrine cell isolations and culture as well as biochemical and cell-based assays • Supports the Lab Director who leads the pre-clinical development activities and ensures alignment with project strategy and deliverables as well as with regulatory and therapeutic guidelines • Builds expertise in diabetes disease area and maintains an up to date knowledge of relevant emerging scientific, clinical and commercial data • Writing scientific publications and grants

Profile Education and experience

• PhD in Life Sciences e.g. Biomedical Sciences or MSc with relevant equivalent experience • Expertise in biomaterials, preferably in alginate hydrogels and Poly-L-Ornithine • Experience in cell biology and/or cell encapsulation is a strong asset • Practical experience in development of reproducible image-based assays, and quantitative analyses of cell organization • Previous experience in an industrial setting, preferably in cell-based product development or pre-clinical development is a plus • Experience in working under GLP/GMP compliance or in a quality control environment is a plus • Comprehensive understanding of endocrine cell biology, characterization and functionality is a plus
